Catherine Rose McGuire, 91, Of West Nyack

WEST NYACK, N.Y. – Catherine Rose McGuire, a resident of West Nyack, died Friday, June 24. She was 91.

She was born in the Bronx on Dec.26, 1924, to Owen and Rose (Mazzaro) Smith.

She raised her family in the Bronx, and eventually moved to West Nyack in 1970 with her husband, Bernard ('Barney') McGuire, and their family.

She worked at various jobs in her life including at a chocolate shop, White Castle hamburgers, Tuck Tape in New Rochelle (where she met her husband), Knit Studios in Nanuet, and Macy’s gift wrapping department.

She is survived by her children, Louise Iessi of Palm Bay, Fla., Rosemarie Mitchell and her significant other, Gregory Poust of Monroe, N.Y., Jimmy McGuire and his wife, Graciela of West Nyack, Kathryn Bischof and her husband, Peter of Washington Township, N.J. and son-in-law Michael Thelen of Texas; and her sister, Ronnie Bromm of Rahway, N.J.

She was predeceased by her first born child, Frances Thelen, and her brothers Owen and Albert Smith.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 29, at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church, 36 W. Nyack Road, Nanuet. Interment to follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery.
